Omaha Poker is the second most played form of poker other than Texas Hold'em. It is an especially popular game in Europe but it has also caught on in a big way in the United States. The game is similar enough to Texas Hold'em that people can catch on quickly but still different enough that it offers players a nice break from the same old game.

The following poker sites are the ones we consider the best for Omaha Poker. Player traffic is not as massive for Omaha Poker sites as it is for Texas Hold'em but you will still find plenty of tables and tournaments at a wide variety of stakes. Check out these Omaha Poker sites to find the best place for your Omaha action.

How to Play Omaha Poker

Omaha Poker is played with nearly the same rule set as Texas Hold'em. The two major differences between the two games are that in Omaha you receive four hole cards and you must use exactly two of those cards when making your hand. Other than that, the two games share the same set of rules.

The Blinds

The blinds work in Omaha in the same fashion as Texas Holdem. At the beginning of each hand, two players must pay the blinds. The player located to the left of the dealer is responsible for the small blind and the next person to the left is responsible for the big blind. The size of the blinds is determined beforehand, but the small blind is usually equal to half a minimum bet and the big blind is usually equal to a full minimum bet.

As the dealer’s position rotates around the table, the players all take turns paying the blinds. In games that use a full time dealer, a small disc called the “dealer’s button” is used to represent the position of the dealer at the table.

The Deal

Immediately after the blinds are paid, the dealer gives each player four cards face down. The cards are dealt one at a time, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer and moving clockwise around the table.

Preflop Betting Round

After the players have a chance to look at their cards, a round of betting takes place. This round begins with the player to the left of the big blind. This player may call to stay in, fold or raise. The betting continues clockwise around the table until the players have all either folded or matched the current bet.

The Flop

Three cards are dealt face up in the middle of the table. These cards are considered community cards and are shared by all the players at the table. These cards are used with any two of each player’s card to make the best possible poker hand for each player.

Next, there is another round of betting. This round and all subsequent betting rounds will begin with the first remaining player to the left of the dealer. This player may check, bet or fold. The betting continues clockwise around the table.

The Turn
